To aid others doing Scottish genealogy researchat one of the
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saint's Family History Centers
(FHC), I have scanned several reference documents from the Salt Lake City Family History Library and posted them here so that you can do
some work at home that might help make your time at the FHCs more productive.
If you don't have a clue what all this s about, here's a brief explanation of this material,
a quick example on how to use it and a couple warnings about what you might encounter.
A word about the On-Line LDS Family Search site.
Please be aware that when you do a search using their web site you are only searching a fraction of the information they have available. Only a very small
percentage of their data has been converted into digital format so if you don't find what you're looking for on their web site you still have excellent chances of
success by going to one of their Family History Centers (FHCs).
Conversely, I understand their Place Search information is very complete. This information lists all the sources that have been filmed by the church or exist in
other forms and the appropriate reference numbers.
The churches holdings are unbelievably large so whatever you're looking for you're
likely to find something.
For those of you new to genealogy on the internet and trying
to figure out what the heck is what, a great starting point is Cyndi's List! Cyndi Howells, genealogist, author and speaker,
has put together an incredible web site! If there is something on the internet about genealogy (and there's a lot), you can find it at Cyndi's List! Here's a link to
her "Beginners" page. |
I am not affiliated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) in any way. This is purely a
labor of love (well, strong like anyway). I welcome any comments, corrections and/or messages. and will have a contact page up soon.
